The The Golf Channel recently announced that John Daly will star in his own reality series. “’The Daly Planet“, a 13-part series that will begin on Jan. 18 will follow around the professional golfer both on and off the course. Initially I was thrilled because who doesn’t love the big teddy bear? Anyone who likes to drink and party is okay in my book…throw in that he is also sponsored by Hooters and the man just might be a living legend! 

Then I started to really analyze reality television. Why do people like it so much? Generally we are entertained when we see people at their worst; in embarrassing situations, failing, crying and in pain. See the train wreck that is ’Breaking Bonaduce’, the reality show following around child star Danny Bonaduce. The truth is, seeing others suffer often makes us feel good about ourselves. It is no secret that John has, and continues to battle many demons in his life. As he states, every day is a battle for him. My problem is that I can’t help but root for him on and off the golf course but for his show to be a success, John is going to have to stumble, falter and most likely embarrass himself to keep the audience amused.

John, I love ya so lets hope your show doesn’t have a second season.
