Bob Weeks writes that Rogers will be moving the Golf Channel from channel 52 to 410. This means that unless you have a digital package, you won’t be able to watch the Golf Channel any longer.
What surprised me is that no one in Canada is watching this channel. Weeks writes:
I spoke with a higher-up at TSN who informed me that The Golf Channel has horrible ratings in Canada, lowest of all the tier 1 cable channels. That means it’s getting beat by the Food Network and Comedy Channel (which I can understand), as well as Outdoor Life and Report on Business TV (which I don’t understand).

Yoga has been a topic many golfers have been trying out over the last few years so I decided to contact a local yoga expert who offers a golf specific class and get her feedback on the whole yoga for golfers craze. Hope you enjoy:
When I first started regularly practicing yoga, it was rare for me to see many men in the studio. Now, nearly half the other students at my yoga class are men and when I teach (for injury prevention or recovery, or specifically for athletes) more than 60% of my students are men. More often than not, I am their first ever yoga instructor.
As men talk to one another and are increasingly anxious to begin experiencing their own unique set of benefits from yoga, more and more are biting the bullet & giving it a try. I have so much fun teaching yoga to beginners (especially athletes), because I can surprise them by taking all the expected stereotypes and turning them on their head – men in my class are taking strokes off their game, relating betting to coworkers and even performing better in romantic relationships (physically and emotionally)- yoga is that beneficial for men!
Even the requisite pop culture all-star endorsements are easier to unearth – now, you need to look no further than your local bookstore for these recommended titles:
· Yoga for Golfers: A Unique Mind-Body Approach to Golf Fitness by
my mentor, Katherine Roberts (McGraw Hill)
· Yoga For Regular Guys: The Best Damn Workout on the Planet! by
world-champion wrestler Diamond Dallas Page (Quirk),
· Yoga for Men: Postures for Healthy, Stress-Free Living by Thomas
Claire (New Page Books)Any of these books are helpful in encouraging a first-try at yoga but they will work best when used in addition to a group or private yoga class, where you’ll have the regular contribution and direction of an experienced yoga instructor (just like learning how to play golf – books can offer suggestions and propose ideas on how to best swing a club, but working with a pro from time to time will produce the best results in the shortest period of time). Any yoga instructor experienced in working with men and or athletes specifically should be able to take your individual work/play/health concerns into consideration and either teaches to those aspirations or recommends postures specifically for your benefit.
To avoid feeling silly and to maximize your immediate benefits, try a class that already is tailored to your needs – just as a prenatal yoga class specifically addresses the unique physical & emotional needs of moms-to-be; a yoga class specifically for athletes, men or a Yoga For GolfersTM class will give you a practice you can adopt & enjoy right away.
It may sound like a stretch (no pun intended) when I say students practicing Yoga For GolfersTM experience these benefits:
* Improved flexibility and strength = Greater distance and accuracy off the tee
* Enhanced breathing awareness = Teaching rhythm and tempo in the golf swing
* Quieter mind = Increased concentration and visualization capabilities
* Improved overall fitness = Reduced risk of injury and recovery time
* Increased sense of balance = More effective club control/weight distributionEven locally, I’ve easily found regular guys and golf pros who rave about the benefits of yoga – just taking a few moments to breathe fully and explore your flexibility today is a start – who knows where you’ll end up?

I am back from my golf trip to Michigan and had a great time. I managed a round at
Hidden Lake in Burlington before taking off to play another 4 courses in Michigan. The weather cooperated so it was a great time. The courses were great and they averaged about $50 a round which included tax and cart. With the Canadian dollar doing so well, it worked out to be a nice cheap trip. I’ll write more in the coming days…right now I am going through some serious golf withdrawl!

It is hard enough trying to hit a golf ball. Throw in the distractions caused by the other members in your group and around the course, not to mention all the noise going on in your head. Now imagine trying to hit a golf ball while a volcano erupts near you.
That is exactly what happens in Indonesia at the Golf Merapi Club where an active volcano is the draw of the course. Recently the volcano has been very active which has scared golfers, staff and even residents away.
“This is the risk of putting a club here,” Sukirman said. “When there is an eruption, it can make the future look pretty unclear.”

As part of my daily reading I stopped in to read
Bob Weeks’ blog over at ScoreGolf and he pointed out (what is already spreading like wildfire across other news sources) John Daly’s gambling problems. Close to $60 million in losses! WOW, I had no idea he made that kind of scratch. Bob also points out that John is on his 4
th wife and pays a reported $35,000/month in alimony to the 3 ex-wives…which is why you see him whoring himself out anywhere he can.
A great excerpt from his book shows you just how bad his problem is:
He told one story of earning $750,000 when he lost in a playoff to Tiger Woods last fall in San Francisco at a World Golf Championship event. Instead of going home, he drove to Las Vegas and says he lost $1.65-million in five hours playing mostly $5,000 slot machines.
I tend to say this every couple of years but I will say it again - I love John but let’s hope he gets some help.
