Golf Blogging – It was a good year
December 21st marks my one year anniversary as a golf blogger. The last few weeks I have spent a lot of time alone driving to various meetings and it has given me the opportunity to reflect on my blog as well as golf blogging in general. A lot has happened with this blog and the golf blogging world in general, so rather than simply writing about my own experiences, I contacted 2 of my favorite bloggers, Bob Weeks and Robert Thompson to get their thoughts as well. Look for these interviews to appear shortly.
My Thoughts…
My background is in advertising as an online marketing director so when I initially started blogging I was more interested to see how I could utilize blogs, video, etc and see if I could translate my experiences back to my clients. Well the ‘experiment’ really took off and soon became a very regular hobby which I thoroughly enjoy. Before I knew it I was part of a very friendly and eager to help North American golf blogging community. Golf Bloggers such as Hooked on Golf Blog, Deep Rough, Golf Girl Diary, Bob Weeks and Robert Thompson all became friends and great sounding boards for new ideas, concepts and new posts.
My blog readers also added a great element of fun and even the odd headache or two. For the most part the comments on the blog were great but occasionally I would have to edit comments which I felt were inappropriate…but I think that comes with the territory. What I really love are the personal emails. I think many people don’t feel comfortable leaving comments so I will receive on average 5-7 emails a week from readers. Emails vary from complimenting the blog, asking questions, suggestions on future posts, and the odd negative email…which is fine, the more feedback the better.
I also had a ‘change the world’ moment. Some may remember that after some long internal deliberation, I wrote a post about a supplier who had fallen through on many promises. After making the post and receiving a lot of feedback, an executive from the company emailed me and rectified the situation. I am positive the only reason this situation was resolved is because of this blog, but nonetheless it was good to see the ordeal finally over.
Finally, I have been fortunate enough to meet, electronically in some cases, other golf enthusiasts who loved the blog and also wanted to get involved. We added a young golf pro named Simon Byford from England who gives us great insight into his profession as well as the day-to-day escapades of working at a golf course.
Debbie Horovitch has brought a great new perspective to the blog. She teaches Yoga for Golfers and writes about health and nutrition as well as her general passion for the game of golf.
Last but not least is Devon Bestard. Devon is a great guy and golf fanatic. He runs a great golf league called The Duffer’s Dream Tour, has his own golf radio show in the Hamilton area and will soon be a part owner in his very own golf course!
Although my game has really struggled, it has been a great year filled with fun and exciting surprises. I have been working many other relationships and looking at new and exciting technologies and partnerships so look for the next 12 months to be an amazing year.
If you write a blog or read them often, I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences
Happy blogday! Keep up the great golf blogging. I’ll continue to try to break into your “top 2 favorite golf bloggers” for now…

Birthday kisses to you Nigel, and congratulations to the Illogical Golf Blog!
I love reading you and you’ve inspired me on a number of occassions. The “glogosphere” is indeed an engaging and interesting place. I’m quite new to it but feel right at home already. Golf is such a multifaceted game and I just love the dycotomy between the traditionalists who seek to preserve the decorum, and the hip newcomers who want to shake it up bit. Makes for some great interchange.
So, keep up the good work. Hope to play a round with you one of these days.
