G.O.A.Ts

Usually when athletes are called goats, it isn’t a good thing.

But in this case it is very fitting.  Tiger Woods and Roger Federer are not just the best players of our time but they are solidifying themselves as the Greatest Of All Time and easily the most dominant players in any sport.

Both are currently on amazing streaks.  This past weekend Tiger captured his 7th straight PGA tour victory while Federer claimed his 3rd consecutive Grand Slam title – without losing a single set in the process.

So who is the most dominant in their sport?  It is a tough call but without taking anything away from Tiger, Federer is an amazing talent but because of his shy and reserved natured and because Tennis isn’t as popular in North America as it is over seas, we rarely hear much about him and we don’t see him doing TV commercials.  Keep in mind too, Tiger has the luxury of playing whenever he wants to while Federer keeps playing year round.

When Tiger was voted the 2006 AP Athlete of the Year, he stated,

“What [Federer] has done in tennis, I think, is far greater than what I’ve done in golf.”

Regardless, what is great is how both players are good friends who continually drive each other to get better.

Who do you think is more dominant?

  2. Hey, Tiger’s also another kind of goat!
I don’t think Federer is, though.

  4. Tiger is ultra-telegenic, Federer isn’t…and Tiger’s from the US. Being Swiss is a huge negative for Federer. A tiny European country that’s universally perceived as having a boring, methodical population… that’s not going to raise the profile of any sport or athlete.

Remember, tennis used to be much more popular in North America back through the years of Connors, McEnroe, Agassi, Sampras. Maybe they didn’t possess tennis the way Federer does, but they made the game fun and exciting. It doesn’t seem to cut it just to dominate and be the best from an athletic standpoint.

  5. […] You had to know that sooner or later, the greatest players of our time would be featured in Ads together.  That time is now!  Gillette has announced they have signed Tiger, Roger Federer and Arsenal Football Superstar Thierry Henry to endoresement deals. […]
