Shopping Insider: Deals on golf clubs, shoes & accessories

May 01, 2007 @ 08:09 am by Yoga For Golfers

It’s no secret that golf courses sell their rental and demo sets at the end of the golf season each year, for a sweet discount.  I love a deal when shopping!

Last week I posted a note on how I’d been looking to buy my 1st set of clubs for 6 months; I honestly thought that the period between October - January would offer up the best deals, but I found a set last week that took the cake.

On Sunday I purchased a great set of Yonex ladies irons that were last years’ model (not a problem for me at all), for $499 including tax, at least 50% discount from 2006.  Keith Chung, the CPGA Head Pro & expert club fitter at Dentonia Park Golf Course (a Toronto municipal course, par 3 – 18 hole, 2,095 yards) was able to discuss the benefits of these specific clubs for me, allowed me to play a round with them before purchasing and will even provide me custom fitting once I’ve played a few rounds with the clubs (my swing will be a little more consistent with these clubs by then, so the fitting will be more accurate).

Keith also mentioned he does have other club set from last season available currently (the demo sets are only used 3-4 times on avg., especially the ladies’ sets), and at a significant discount as well since the new, 2007 models are ready to be displayed.

I guess most people wouldn’t think of buying clubs from a course that’s right on the Toronto subway line and where you can play 18 holes for less than $20, but Dentonia Park Golf Course is definitely worth checking out if you’re like me & love a deal when shopping!
