Everyone’s favorite goofball was busted for driving drunk in a golf cart while in Stockholm. Murray admitted he was drunk but refused the breath test. Any guy who starred in Caddy Shack should just be left alone!
I enjoyed a round at Legend Trail this spring; this is a GREAT deal. Its a good course if you are looking for a challenge - they really take advantage of the natural cacti & a lot of times right off the tee box you have to get up & over a terrible thick of local stuff. It wasn’t the most beautful course I played in Arizona, but I played with a PGA Pro and I think he found it challenging, too (perhaps it was the brand new clubs he was taking out of the plastic while we played)… More bunnies & local wildlife on this course than any other I’ve played.
While on a trip to Las Vegas last month, I had the opportunity to sit down with Thunderball CEO Colin McDougall. Thunderball is a cool new gold concept and I am looking forward to checking out this October in Vegas. Check out the interview below and make sure to watch the promo reel on the Thunderball web site. This is going to be cool. For more information, you can contact Colin at: colin@thunderball.net
GL: Colin, tell us exactly what Thunderball is.
CM: THUNDERBALL IS THE BRAND NAME FOR MY COMPANY WHICH IS FOCUSED ON THE MARKETING AND PROMOTION OF PROFESSIONAL POWER DRIVING. THUNDERBALL WILL FEATURE EXCITING LIVE EVENTS BASED IN LAS VEGAS WHERE 16 OF THE WORLD’S BEST HITTERS WILL COMPETE IN A SINGLE ELIMINATION, LAST MAN STANDING FORMAT. THE LIVE EVENTS WILL BE CAPTURED FOR BROADCAST ON TELEVISION ALONG WITH GREAT SEGMENTS ON THE PLAYERS THEMSELVES GL: Where did the idea come from?CM: 4 YEARS AGO, I WAS WATCHING A GOLF BROADCAST, AND THE BOREDOM OF IT JUST GOT TO ME. AFTER THINKING ABOUT WHY THE BROADCAST WOULD BE SO BORING, I CONCLUDED THAT DUE TO THE BROAD APPEAL OF THE SPORT DEMOGRAPHICALLY THAT GOLF CONTENT WAS COMPLETELY UNTARGETED.TO ME THAT MEANT THERE MUST BE AN OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE A MUCH MORE COMPELLING PIECE OF GOLF CONTENT FOR A MORE DEFINED AGE GROUP. SELFISHLY, I PICKED MY OWN AGE GROUP!
GL: Where and when can we expect to see it?
CM: LIVE EVENTS ARE PLANNED FOR THE FALL (DETAILED ANNOUNCEMENTS ARE COMING) WITH THE BROADCASTS AIMED FOR DECEMBER ON A MAJOR CABLE NETWORK.
GL: Obviously this isnšt competing with the PGA, what is your target demo and how do you plan on keeping this fresh and exciting past year 1?
CM: WE ARE DEFINITELY A DIFFERENT, NON-COMPETING PROGRAM TO THE PGA TOUR. MY FIRM BELIEF IS THAT POWER-DRIVING WILL BE VIEWED AS ITS OWN SPORT SOON IN THE SAME WAY THAT SNOWBOARDING DEVELOPED INTO ITS OWN. AS FOR KEEPING IT FRESH, THERE WILL BE SOME NEW WRINKLES INTRODUCED ALONG THE WAY SO I’LL KEEP THE SUSPENSE FOR NOW!
GL: As the former President of Accuform golf, you created the Whistler Driver, very similar to the new Nike Sumo. How do you feel about a similar design being used by Nike?
CM: I’M SURPRISED IT TOOK THIS LONG REALLY….WE KNEW IN ‘94 THAT THE SHAPE WAS BENEFICIAL IN TERMS OF ACCURACY TO A DEGREE THAT WAS UNHEARD OF AT THE TIME - UNFORTUNATELY THE PUBLIC WASN’T READY FOR SUCH A CHANGE FROM A SMALLER COMPANY LIKE ACCUFORM. IN MANY WAYS, ACCUFORM WAS AHEAD OF ITS TIME - THE WHISTLER WAS JUST ONE OF THOSE WAYS….
It’s good to see people making the connection to physical conditioning of endurance, balance, strength, breathing (and not to mention mental conditioning that allows you to contribute to your mind/perception and physical performance) and how this affects your performance in your chosen sport.
In any area of life that you want to excel, you have to remember there are many non-direct activities that will have a direct impact on the end results you achieve.
No matter what you want to achieve, consider the positive effect of coming to the table “fully-loaded” with finely tuned mental conditioning, proper nutrition, sleep & hydration, physical skills like endurance, power, balance, etc…. this is how people like Tiger are not really lucky at all - they make sure every aspect is covered well before showing up. You can see this and apply it with your family, with your career, with any area of passion that you want to reach for the stars and achieve - ultimately no one is lucky forever, the people who might seem that way are simply much more well prepared.
The picture isn’t far off. When Annika Sorenstam tees it up at St. Andrews, she will be getting more than a little help from Tiger. Tiger has lend Annika his yardage book from his 2005 British Open victory.
“He said, ‘I have my yardage book. Do you want to use it?’ ” Sorenstam said Wednesday on the eve of the LPGA’s fourth major. “I replied, ‘I would love to. Are you sure?’ ”
Sorenstam has a friendly rivalry with Woods based on the number of majors won — he has 12, she has 10. A few weeks ago, the two discussed the Old Course, where a women’s professional tournament will be held for the first time.
It doesn’t get any better then that! The entire story can be found HERE
