Golf growing in Canada…not so much in the US

Feb 22, 2008 @ 05:03 pm by Nigel Da Costa

Garth Woolsey of the Toronto Star has a great ARTICLE on the growth of Golf in Canada and the decline of the game in the US.

The New York Times writes that the number of US golfers has dropped from 30 million in 2000 to 26 million right now. In Canada participation has risen from 21.6% over the same period for a total of 5.95 million golfers.

As you can imagine, price and time were cited as the main barriers to playing more golf. Below is a study by the RCGA:

WHY DON’T YOU PLAY MORE GOLF?

49% Too expensive

Too expensive45% Not enough time (work)

26% Not enough time (family)

24% Lack of playing partners

23% Poor weather

20% Courses too crowded

17% Takes too long to play
