Kids and Strippers Golfing – Not a Great Idea

Easily the story of the week.  Why doesn’t this happen when I am golfing?

BROOMFIELD, Colo.—A close encounter between flirtatious strippers and children playing in a golf tournament was the result of “mistiming,” golf course officials said Tuesday as they apologized to parents.

The scantily clad women spilled out of a limousine as the youngsters were finishing their game as part of the Gold Crown Junior Golf Association tournament Monday. Tournament officials said they were not warned the strippers would be arriving before the end of the game for children, who ranged in age from 7 to 12.

The women were part of Shotgun Willie’s Charity Golf Tournament to benefit breast cancer. The strippers were to serve as caddies to patron’s of the strip club. A club manager said there were 144 golfers and 70 caddies.

A woman told KUSA-TV the event drew curious questions from her children, who asked her why the men joining the strippers had water guns and why the women wore only their underwear. KUSA said the woman declined to be identified.

Eagle Trace Golf Course manager Evelyn Koch says the women were forbidden from going topless and that they were just flirting with the men.

“I cannot tell you the girls didn’t flash out there but it wasn’t a free-for-all,” Koch said. She said the Shotgun Willie’s crowd and the young golfers had to share the same clubhouse while the children had lunch because their tournament started later than expected.

Still, she said the Broomfield golf course was sorry children were present when the strippers arrived.

Golf course instructor Dustin Moser said some of the strippers “got a little out of control” but that it happened after the children had left.

Take This With a Grain of Salt….

Or a handful! Or two!

If you need a way to relax your tired feet, legs, shoulders and everywhere else that aches after summer long-weekend 27-hole rounds, try epsom salts. It’s the mineral magnesium sulfate, which when absorbed through the skin (like, in a lukewarm bath) it draws toxins out through the skin, sedates your nervous system (how it helps you fall asleep), reduces swelling, relaxes muscles and is even great for the look of your skin!

Often less than $5/1lb. bag, you can’t go wrong.

If your not a bath type of person, here are a few more tips for creative uses and benefits of epsom salts:

Walk or Ride on the Golf Course

Jun 07, 2008 @ 10:29 am by Nigel Da Costa

Just last week I was telling a friend how I tend to shoot better scores when I walk a course. But some courses are a tough walk, not to mention, it is often fun to drive around with a friend and enjoy the day.

So what is better for your game? Well let me answer that…it just so happens that researchers studied it and made a presentation last week at the American College of Sports Medicine’s annual meeting.

Turns out walking is not good for your game! Over time, your mechanics get worse and so does your score! So next time your friend calls you lazy for taking a cart, maybe you should make him walk and play for money!

When walking 18 holes, a golfer’s swing and mechanics change for the worse, causing the player to hit the ball with less distance and accuracy, according to a study presented at the American College of Sports Medicine annual meeting, May 28-31, in Indianapolis.

Researchers studied seven recreational golfers, who typically average a score between 80 and 95, who walked while carrying a weighted golf bag during a simulated golf game. The one female and six male golfers walked 6 miles in total in 1-mile increments. Before the first mile, and after each subsequent mile, each player hit 20 tee shots, totaling 140 tee shots for the round.

Researchers found that over time, the golfers were less able to properly transfer weight to their front leg on a swing, resulting in less club head velocity that could affect how far the ball would travel. The study also showed that over time, the angles of the front knee and ankle at the top the swing changed, a development that could affect a shot’s accuracy.

“I think many golfers are realizing that their bodies are the most important tool they have in the golf swing, and that improving physical fitness may be more helpful than expensive golf clubs,” researcher Nick R. Higdon said in a prepared statement. “The study suggests that golf mechanics change and performance may decline the longer the golfer walks and swings. Getting in better shape may help golfers combat the effects of fatigue while playing golf.”

Trump Visits Scotland

Jun 05, 2008 @ 11:28 am by Nigel Da Costa

Last November we discussed Donald Trump’s new golf development in Scotland and the troubles he was running into with a local resident who wasn’t going to give up his land…and wasn’t going down without a fight.

Looks like the Donald will go down swinging…he is flying to Scotland next week for public hearing. Locals hate the idea of the course but the business community loves it. Seems like the town is very divided but one thing is for sure, they can expect a media circus once The Donald arrives!
