Chez Reavie and Quagmire Golf Win

Jul 29, 2008 @ 09:06 pm by Nigel Da Costa

Rookie PGA star Chez Reavie wins the Canadian Open this week but another big story for Canucks is Quagmire Golf.  I have written about Quagmire Golf in the past and wear their great shirts all the time.  Quagmire Golf is owned and operated by two great Canadian guys, Geoff Tait and Bobby Pasternak.
This week as Chez was tearing up the course, Quagmire was plastered across televisions all over North America…a big deal for an up and coming golf company.  I spoke with Geoff shortly after the victory and as you can expect, he was speechless and trying to figure out how to capitalize on all the exposure.
Stay tuned everyone, we have a follow up interview with Geoff and Bobby on the way.  Congratulations guys…you deserve it for all your hard work!

The David Leadbetter Swing Setter Pro

Let me start by staying THIS IS NOT AN INFOMERCIAL.  I have in no way been paid to write this post.  Let me also say, I love the David Leadbetter Swing Setter Pro!

Upon the suggestion of a good friend who also happens to be a single digit handicap golfer, I went out and purchased the David Leadbetter Swing Setter Pro.  After a few hours in my backyard and an hour on the range, I hit the course and had a great time.  I was driving the ball an average of 20 yards longer and hitting it much straighter.  My only complaint is that I flew just about every green because my irons were going so much further, I had no idea about club selection.  A few more times out and I will be familiar with distances and will be a very happy man.

The Swing Setter Pro is the newest version of Leadbetter’s training aid.  The difference with the Pro version is the ability to actually hit balls.  The original Swing Setter didn’t have a club head, it was more focused on fundamentals.  The new version has a club head which actually allows you to hit the ball.  There are 3 things which I loved about the product.

1. The Golf Pride grip come with pre-set groves showing you a proper grip.

2. Magnetic Ball.  The golf club comes with a magnetic ball which clicks and unclicks based on your swing.  It is very hard to describe (watch the great video) but the clicking of the ball tells you when you have done something correctly, such as properly cocking your wrists, and also tells you when you have done something wrong.  After using it at home and on the range, the clicking and routine was easily transferred to my game on the course.  It was completely engrained into my swing, I could actually hear the clicking in my head.  When I hit a bad shot, I knew exactly what went wrong.

3. The Instructional DVD - With the Swing Setter Pro you are also provided with an instructional DVD hosted by David Leadbetter himself.  I must have watched this DVD over 20 times already.  Not so much to learn how to use the training aid but by watching his swing and listening to him discuss mechanics, I felt like it was being given a personal lesson.

What I found has really helped me the most is that I now have a much improved tempo.  This has really allowed me to be more relaxed over the ball, generate more power and properly release the club.
Two days ago I was on the range with a friend and had him using the club.  After 30 minutes he couldn’t believe how well he was hitting his own clubs.  I almost didn’t get it back from him.
Do yourself a favour and pick up the Swing Setter Pro, you won’t regret it.  And if you already have one, please provide me with feedback, I would love to know if others are having the same positive results I am.   You can read more on the Swing Setter Web Site.

Tiger Woods - The Billion Dollar Man

Jul 19, 2008 @ 02:29 pm by Nigel Da Costa

He just never ceases to amaze us does he?  Check out the entire story HERE

Forbes magazine suggests that Tiger Woods is on target to become the first person to accumulate $1 billion through sporting prowess alone.

Forbes magazine an annual ranking of the world’s richest people in its Celebrity 100 list. It reports that Woods earned $115 million in 2007 alone and he will pass through the $1 billion mark in 2010.

The second-placed sportsman on the list is footballer David Beckham, who banked $65 million in 2007.

Forbes said: “There are plenty of billionaires who have excelled at sports like Switzerland’s richest man, and champion sailor, Ernesto Bertarelli. But there are no billionaires who accumulated their fortune by playing sports.”

Woods is reported to have earned more than $750 million in endorsement deals to date in his career. At 32, he has won 50 tournaments faster than any player in history.

What is Golf?

Jul 10, 2008 @ 12:27 pm by Nigel Da Costa

Have you ever had to describe exactly what golf is to anyone? I haven’t but I was recently involved in an email exchange where someone asked for a definition of golf. The third person on the email directed her to Wikipedia, the unofficial source for all information. I couldn’t resist the urge so I clicked over and checked out the explanation.

Golf always confused me…but now even more so:

Golf is a sport in which a player, using many types of clubs including a driver, a putter, and irons, hits a ball into each hole on a golf course in the lowest possible number of strokes. Golf is one of the few ball games that does not use a standardized playing area; rather, the game is played on golf “courses”, each one of which has a unique design and typically consists of either 9 or 18 holes. Golf is defined in the Rules of Golf as “playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with the Rules.”
