The Perfect Golfer

Mar 18, 2008 @ 01:40 pm by Nigel Da Costa

If you had to choose the perfect golfer you would obviously choose Tiger.  But what if you had to take a single trait from today’s golfers to build a super-golfer?  ESPN did just this…the best traits of all current golfers were taken to build their perfect golfer. A Perfect male and female golfer was build.

The best male and female golfers of our time are Tiger Woods and Annika Sorenstam. Which traits were chosen from these great players??? Mental Toughness! What has made these players as great as they are is their ability to focus on nothing but winning tournaments despite the enormous pressure they face each week.

Check it out, The Perfect Golfer is a great feature when you have some time to kill.

Chris Burdge – Sand Save

Feb 27, 2008 @ 05:30 pm by Nigel Da Costa

Chris started golfing around the age of 10, and although he enjoyed spending time on the course with his Father, he didn’t take to the game right away. His first love was hockey. Golf was a much more challenging and less forgiving game, and lacked ‘referees’ that keep the game honest.

His real passion for the game didn’t come until he learned an important golf lesson – ‘play it where it lies’ (and count every stroke). It was tough at first, and added a few strokes to his game, but ultimately this enabled him to focus on improving his score. His favourite shot is blasting out of the soft sand of a greenside bunker.

Nowadays Chris can be found on one of the many beautiful courses on Vancouver Island sharing his love for golf with his children.

Chris’ wife Maki is a golfer too. She also runs a company called Victoria Concierge that arranges tee-times and tournaments for out-of-town golfers.

Golf growing in Canada…not so much in the US

Feb 22, 2008 @ 05:03 pm by Nigel Da Costa

Garth Woolsey of the Toronto Star has a great ARTICLE on the growth of Golf in Canada and the decline of the game in the US.

The New York Times writes that the number of US golfers has dropped from 30 million in 2000 to 26 million right now. In Canada participation has risen from 21.6% over the same period for a total of 5.95 million golfers.

As you can imagine, price and time were cited as the main barriers to playing more golf. Below is a study by the RCGA:

WHY DON’T YOU PLAY MORE GOLF?

49% Too expensive

Too expensive45% Not enough time (work)

26% Not enough time (family)

24% Lack of playing partners

23% Poor weather

20% Courses too crowded

17% Takes too long to play

Ian Poulter – World’s Best Golfer?

Jan 30, 2008 @ 11:32 am by Nigel Da Costa

He is currently ranked 22nd in the world but Ian Poulter believes he is the only player in the world who can challenge Tiger Woods.

“Don’t get me wrong, I really respect every professional golfer, but I know I haven’t played to my full potential and when that happens, it will be just me and Tiger.”

I must say that I love his confidence and it is refreshing to see someone step up aside from windbag Rory Sabatini. I also love his realistic response to his predictions for the first 2 majors of the season. For the Masters; ‘”Put Tiger down for that one.” For the US Open; “You can put me down for that one.”

Good Luck Ian!

Snake Eaten Golf Balls Fetch a Small Fortune

Jan 11, 2008 @ 11:37 am by Nigel Da Costa

Last week I wrote about a snake who ate a bunch a golf balls, thinking they were eggs.

The golf balls were removed and auctioned on eBay.  Believe it or not, the balls sold for $1,253 US and the proceeds will go to the Currumbin Wildlife Santuary.  Good story and a great cause.

2008 Anti-Resolution

Jan 02, 2008 @ 12:12 pm by Nigel Da Costa

Happy New Year to all! I hope Santa was good to everyone. This was the first year in a long time where I didn’t receive a single golf related gift, unless you count Tiger Woods 2008 golf game for the Wii.

Last year I talked about how much I hate New Year’s resolutions so I started an Anti-Resolution List because I think we all need bad habits to keep us happy and sane. The list was highlighted by hottie Jessica Alba…but since her recent announcement that she is pregnant, I decided I needed to stalk someone new for 2008!

2008 Anti-Resolutions:

  • I will continue to consume Canadian Back Bacon every Sunday morning
  • I will substitute beer for water on the golf course
  • I will blog about the silliest golf stories I can find
  • Alessandra Ambrosio – WOW. No resolution here but WOW!

All the best for an outstanding 2008!

Great Tiger Woods Press Conference

Dec 12, 2007 @ 01:03 pm by Nigel Da Costa

Player of the Year Tiger Woods was speaking at a press conference about the Target World Challenge when a sexy young lady posing as a reporter asked him a question he wasn’t expecting:

“is my boyfriend is gay because he screams out your name during sex?”

The young lady was quicky escorted out but I am sure it was a nice break for Tiger who gets asked some of the stupidest and most mundane questions each press conference.

The rest of the stupid questions can be found HERE
